Thank u so much for the help guys...
I can't imagine how busy u guys must be with this one, so thanks for taking the time out to help us all out...
I ran all the spyware i know about (AdAware, SpyHunter, SpyBot, SpySweeper, Microsoft AntiSpyware) and a whole bunch of anti-virus programs...
I uninstalled SP2, then ran HJT, but my results are different then the ones suggested on the tutorial...
If u guys got some time, can u take a look...I don't know what else to do...
Thanks again guys...

(I'm not the expert here, Dan is, but I do have my A+ and been messing with this shit for years.)

I still do not believe you have AceBot. However, you still do have Copernic Agent.

Your problems exist here:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\CopernicAgentExt.dll/INTEGRATION_BAND_SEARCHBAR_HTML

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {BE89472C-B803-4D1D-9A9A-0A63660E0FE3} - C:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.DLL

O8 - Extra context menu item: Search Using Copernic Agent - res://C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\CopernicAgentExt.dll/INTEGRATION_MENU_SEARCHEXT

First thing you should do is search (Start --> Search --> Files and Folders)for C:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.EXE

Next, open up killbox and kill these files:

C:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.EXE (if you have it)

C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\CopernicAgentExt.dll
C:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.DLL
(These are probably the same file, but you should enter both into killbox just to be sure)

Next, go into HiJackThis and get rid of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\CopernicAgentExt.dll/INTEGRATION_BAND_SEARCHBAR_HTML

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {BE89472C-B803-4D1D-9A9A-0A63660E0FE3} - C:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.DLL

O8 - Extra context menu item: Search Using Copernic Agent - res://C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\CopernicAgentExt.dll/INTEGRATION_MENU_SEARCHEXT

Once you have done this, delete the C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent directory.

That should take care of you Copernic Agent spyware problem. Also, you should uninstall Realplayer.

Im not sure about the bar he is telling you to remove, I have not seen this one before, maybe its new?

However, by observing your log, your system seems to be very clean, and does not have any relations to the AceBot Trojan that initially started this.

If you did have it, you no longer have it.

You should be ready to reinstall SP2 now. Your system is looking very good.

Hi,

I have been looking at a friends PC most of today..trying deserately to get it fixed for him. He seems to have something very similar to what you guys are talking about. The virus(?) seems to have avoided all froms of scanning it.

The symptoms are:
1. about:about page on internet explorer... Keeps changing back after you change the home page....
2. On installing Service pack 2 the Dr. Watson Error came to the front... you could not access Explorer in any form... for the internet or for browsing the hard drive..Control panel...
3. Upon uninstalling Service pack 2, (thanks for your hand with that one) The Dr Watson error has gone and now a screen pops up ever so often informing you that there is spyware on your PC, and you should download software to remove it... ironic!

Steps Taken are:
1. Spybot Search And Destroy 1.3 run
2. AdAware SE Personal edition run
3. SpySweeper run
4. Panda ActiveScan .. not able to be run..As it was online and I wasn't certain how to connect to the interent in safe mode.
5. HiJack This was run with the following result:

May I complement you guys on such a great job! I know I try my best at work, but never get any recognition. You guys surely deserve it!

I am studying my A+ Certifaction at present..(Doing hardware at the moment..) Looks like fun!

I am not sure what you did wrong...

You need to nail out the three parts that come with this nasty bug..

You need to get the BHO, the service, and the launching executables.

So, here we go again, the virus is back on your computer in full form, here are the lines:

C:\WINDOWS\apply32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ntin32.exe

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FA239BAA-E441-30B6-0ABB-3EAAF567B877} - C:\WINDOWS\winop.dll
(THIS ONE IS HUGE!)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apply32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apply32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ntin32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ntin32.exe

O23 - Service: Workstation NetLogon Service - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\atlsj32.exe (file missing)

Now, in KillBox, set it to delete on reboot, delete the following files, when it asks if you are sure click YES, when it asks to reboot, click NO.

C:\WINDOWS\atlsj32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ntin32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\apply32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winop.dll

Now, open HiJackThis, and remove the following lines. For testing purposes, please do not uninstall service pack 2, see if it corrects the problem without uninstalling.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FA239BAA-E441-30B6-0ABB-3EAAF567B877} - C:\WINDOWS\winop.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apply32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apply32.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ntin32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ntin32.exe

O23 - Service: Workstation NetLogon Service - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\atlsj32.exe (file missing)

If you remove all of these correctly, the problem will be corrected, otherwise, your a dead fish in the water.

Hey... I was wondering if you are constantly having the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger error, whenever opening internet explorer, my computer, control panel?

I do not really see anything in your logfile that would show you actually have this virus we are talking about.

Do you still recieve this error? If so, please let me know.

Thanks for running all the steps. While observing your log, I found the following things that would be causing this error:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\crxn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winth.exe

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {80D79146-9A94-94FC-2D86-344D3D04EE7A} - C:\WINDOWS\addrl32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winth.exe] C:\WINDOWS\winth.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdkpg32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkpg32.exe

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\crxn.exe

Now, open KillBox, and set it to delete on reboot. whenever removing a file, it will ask if you are sure, click yes, when it asks you to reboot, click NO. Please remove the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\crxn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkpg32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winth.exe
C:\WINDOWS\addrl32.dll

Now, open HiJackThis, and remove the following lines:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {80D79146-9A94-94FC-2D86-344D3D04EE7A} - C:\WINDOWS\addrl32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winth.exe] C:\WINDOWS\winth.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdkpg32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkpg32.exe

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\crxn.exe

NOW, You are mentioning your page changing, that usually is the work of this nasty program called CoolWebSearch also known as CWS. Try downloading and running this program:

http://www.thenerdnetwork.net/downloads/utilities/CWSInstall.exe

That program is called CWShredder.

Hope this helps getting your friend's computer all fixed up. That may be an older version of CWShredder. Please google search for CWShredder, and download the newest version preferably, esp if this one finds anything.
